My babbies grow so fast

Ready to leave the nest.

Now the puppies are about 5 and a half weeks old, by the end of the week they will be old enough to leave their mom and go to their new homes. We have had so much fun and love our puppies sooo much. It has been really neat to see their little personalities emerge. Watching them play and fight and sleep, it is all so rewarding.

Here are my babies. Anthony, who we call Tone Tones or Tony, is the oldest. Cicilia, who we call Cici, was next, then Vincent, we call him Vinnie, and the baby Evelyn, who we call Evie. We have sold Evie to our friend Mike. Mike has decided to name her Harmony, so from now on we will call her Harmony.

Anthony (Tone Tones)

Tone Tones was the first born. He is the biggest of all the puppies. All the puppies have very different, distinct personalities. Tone Tones likes to sleep...all the time. He is pretty laid back, and although he does play and have a good time, he is happiest to snuggle with you and sleep :)

I love Tone Tones' cuddly nature and sweet disposition.

Next comes Cicilia (Cici). Cici is my adventure seeker. Cici seems to squeeze herself into any spot she can find, if she actually fits or not! I love how curious she is. She is also very affectionate and gives kisses whenever she can.

Cici does not have a white mark on the back of her neck like the other puppies, and she has a lot more tan on her face. She is a very beautiful little puppy.

Vincent (Vinnie) came after that. He is a mommas boy just like Logan. Vinnie loves to be held. He is very snuggly. He is a little whiner. He even whines when he is sleeping. Once you pick him up and hold him close he stops whining.

He is just so little and cute, and I know, I know, I say that about all my puppies, but he is pretty special because he loves to be with people. He loves to be held and makes a great best friend.

Harmony is the baby. Wow, she is a little fireball. We have sold Harmony to our friend Mike, he still wants her even after I told him what a little devil she can be. Harmony is my favorite. This may seem funny because she is such a handful. I think it has something to do with such a big personality being in such a little package. She is the runt and is noticeably smaller than the other puppies. Despite her diminutive size, she fights with the best of 'em (you have no idea how long it took to get these pictures of her).

Harmony is a sweetie and after she has worn herself out, fighting with the other puppies and pouncing on shadows and stationary objects...she is GREAT for holding and falling asleep in your arms.

To give you an idea of what the puppis will look like, here is their mom and dad.

We love our puppies VERY much. If you are looking for a wonderful addition to your family, let us know. Beagles are great with kids, love people, and make great and loyal companions who live to please. Our Beagles are given lots of love and we want to make sure that they go to good homes. We will have at least 1 litter every year, so don't worry if you are not ready for a puppy right now, we will have many more bundles of love.

The New Puppies!

They are FINALLY here!

As you may or may not know, we are going to be breeding our Beagles. We have 2 females, Leela and Lola, and 1 male, Logan. We bred Leela with one of my friends Beagles, Bentley (Logan wasn't old enough yet). Leela was pregnant for almost 10 weeks, which is normal for Beagles. She was SO huge!

We thought she was going to have 8 or 9 puppies, I can't believe she only had 4.

On Sunday, 07/27/2008, at about 9:00 PM Leela gave birth to a little teenie tiny baby puppy. SO LITTLE!

It was dark, so the pictures are not the best, but you an see the little guy starting to suckle.

About an hour later, here was the next one.

In another hour, here was the next one.

and the last one... Until they were all here.

If Leela looks worn out, she was. It was a long night for all of us. All the little puppies trying to get some food from mom. I was really proud of Leela, she was so calm and knew exactly what to do. She is a great mommy and takes really good care of her little babies.

SLEEP!! What a great experience. Leela did great, and there we have 4 cute little bundles of joy as part of our family, even if it is only for a little while.

They all look like gerbals. They will just squeak, eat, sleep and poop, until they are about 10 days old. When they were 10 days old, the opened their eyes. So they did all the same things, but with their eyes open :) It was so fun to hold them and snuggle them when they were so little. Now that they are older, though, they look like little Beagles instead of gerbals.

Lola - she is SO big!

How she has grown

Lola is almost 1 year old ~ she is SO big!! and that is not the only thing that has changed. Remember how she was so sweet and snugglely (that probably isn't a real word ~ oh well) It was all a trick. She is SO crazy and spunky and sassy!

Now, the docile, little sweetheart lasted for a while (look how cute she is, ah I can't even handle it) But eventually she started to show her true colors.

My favorite of her little tricks was when she would jump up against the food container. We keep the dogs food in a large container with an air tight lid that flipped open for food access. When it was time for food, we would open the container and pick up the scoop getting ready to scoop her food into her bowl. Lola would sit a few feet away wagging her tail, she would just sit, watching, waiting...waiting for you to scoop the food. As soon as you would have a scoop, Lola would lunge forward hitting the food container and knocking the food out of the scoop. LOL she would do this over and over again. She didn't seem to care that she wasn't getting her food, it was just a big game, or she was too excited and had to jump and hit the food container, I am not sure, but it was sure hilarious. She eventually grew out of it, but it was SO funny, she did it every time. What a little pixie!

Lola is just like Leela, she LOVES taking baths. Here is her first bath . . . she looks so skinny and scared, but believe me, she likes it! : )

Yes, I am one of THOSE dog owners who puts clothes on their dogs. But look at that cute little pink shirt, it had snow flakes and was SO cute! I had to put it on her. It says I heart Winter on it, which is kind of funny since Lola didn't seem to heart the snow all that much.

Then, in what seemed like overnight, she was BIG. My little Lola baby was bigger than BOTH the other dogs. She continued with her little tricks. She tried to escape at every chance she got. She didn't want to escape to get away from us, she just wanted to go exploring. Beagles follow their nose, and Lola is NO exception.

For some reason she sits on her side, kind of like side saddle, it is pretty funny. Not sure why she sits like this . . . because she is Lola the pixie, that's why...lol

We took Logan, Lola, and a very pregnant Leela to the Ford Reunion in Big Glade. Here they are taking a nap. You can see Lola, yes Leela is using her head as a pillow, silly puppies.

Bentley

This is Bentley. There's a long story about Bentley and how he was part of our little family for a short time.

I was on Facebook one day and noticed a friend's post looking for someone to take her beagle, Bentley. She just had a baby and with the baby, working a part time job, and her husband working a full time job (and going to school as well, I think) she didn't feel Bentley was getting the love and attention he deserved.

He's pretty obedient for a beagle.

Her post asked friends to let her know if anyone knew about a good home for him. He was SO beautiful, as you can tell, so I told her as long as he was AKC registered, I would be more than happy to take him. It was important he be fully AKC resistered so we could use him for breeding with our girl dogs, who are also AKC registered.

My friend never moved Bentley's registration to her name from the previous owners, even though she had owned Bentley for almost 2 years. This was required before he could be transferred to us. So while she sent away for the papers, we picked him up and brought him home.

None of my other dogs would play fetch but Bentley loved it!

Shortly after we had him home, our Leela was ready to be bred, so. . . we let Bentley do his doggy business. (Oh no, cover your eyes!)

We finally got the papers from my friend, who transferred him into her name, but there was a problem. Let me explain how the AKC works, then you will understand the problem. When you want to register a litter with the AKC (American Kennel Club) you have to list the dad and mom so they can verify they are both certified, pure breed dogs. When a male sires more than 3 litters in a year, the AKC makes you submit that dad's DNA so they can put it on file and cross-check other dogs they have on file. They do this to ensure paternity, pure blood lines, and so on. A dog is considered pure bred, and eligible for certified AKC registration, if you can prove both the mother and father are AKC certified going back 4 generations. That's a LOT of dogs!!

He has beautiful markings

A lot of Bentley's ancestry is from one breeder, and somewhere in the 4 generations, one of the dogs they said was the dad . . . wasn't the dad. They just found this out now, because the DNA rule that the AKC has. The AKC notifies the breeder one of thier dogs is not the dad to a specific litter, and ask them to submit DNA for any other male dogs that may have been the dad. If the breeder submits the DNA and is able to find out the dad, then no problem. But if they can't, then ALL the puppies of the dogs in question will have their registration changed from certified to conditional because they can't prove who the dad is.

So, although he was a certified AKC registered Beagle when he was originally registered, he is now a conditionally registered AKC Beagle. This means he is restricted from participating in some AKC show and field events, and if he sires ANY puppies he has to have his DNA submitted to the AKC (which is $40 BTW), the mom must have her DNA submitted and on file, and all the puppies sired by that male, as well. Even after you go through ALL this trouble and pay for ALL those tests, the puppies can still only be registered as conditional. Once 4 generations of paternity have been proven, the 5th generation will be registered as certified, pure breed beagles. THAT'S SO MANY BEAGLES!!

We never had him in the snow, so i don't know if he liked it or not.
It depends on the Dog, Leela and Logan like the snow, but Lola doesn't really like it.

So we decided not to keep him, because of the cost, and the fact that his puppies can't be registered as certified pure bred beagles until the 5th generation. We decided this was the best thing to do because, while we love our puppies and consider them part of our family, that's a LOT of puppies that are not helping further the breed. Because we want to breed Beagles, we decided it would be best to have Bentley in a home that was happy to keep him purely as a family pet and not intent on breeding him. Plus, when you have TWO girl dogs go into heat you have to keep them separated from 2 males to ensure you know how may be the daddy...and that's WAY more work than we were up for. I mean, we're not running a puppy mill, here.

We only had Bentley for a few months, so I thought I should tell my friend what the situation was and that we were planning to find him a new home. She offered to take him back and with this process for us. We were VERY grateful to have her help. We drove Bentley back to her home at the beginning of July. We miss his big smile and sweet personality. He slept with us several nights and it was hard to tell if it was Bentley snoring, or Dan...so funny.

He was a good sleeper!

In about 3 weeks, Leela is due with Bentley's litter. We're not going to register them with the AKC because of the cost involved and the whole conditional registration fiasco. We will be selling them for $100 to cover the cost of shots and food for the first little while. They will stay with their mother until they are 6 or 7 weeks old. I'll post some pictures of Leela now that she is showing (she is SO big!)

The Bigler Family

Taken December 2007

My husband Dan and I have three beautiful Beagles. On the site you will find pictures of our little family, updates on how they are doing, funny stories and of course the mischief that they always get into. Leela Isabella was our first we got her in November of 2006, then 6 months later we drove out to California and picked up Logan Montoya, and in November 2007 we got Lola Josefina. We love our puppies, and enjoy the love and happiness they bring into our lives.
-Krystal Lynne

Lola Josefina - Lolita

Lola Josefina was born on October 10th. Her parents are both Tri Color Beagles. She, as well as all of her ancestors, is a Pure Bred AKC registered Beagle. She is different than our other puppies because her parents were used for hunting. Leela and Logan's parents were all family pets. Lola's parents are both hunting dogs. We got her from a family residing in Bluffdale, Utah. He was in a parking lot of a shopping center in Lehi on Saturday November 24th 2007. Dan noticed they were selling puppies and came to get me from my moms house. I couldn't resist. I asked Dan if I could get her. It was exactly what I wanted for Christmas this year.

Lola is even MORE docile than Logan. She will sit in your lap and fall asleep anytime anywhere. in fact we put her in a little carrying bag and took her to a Christmas party. she just sat in the bag while I ate my dinner, and we opened presents.

She too squeezes through the gates, and so now even with the different types of gates, at least one of my dogs can get past at least one of the gates. Leela can climb over one of them, Logan has now since figured out that he can Jump over the over kind, and Lola can squeeze through the slates on the others. Whatever will we do . . . lol

Lola does NOT like the snow, she likes to be snuggled in your arms and toasty warm. It is SO hard to leave her to go to work, because she is so cute and SO little. I have lots more pictures, but I haven't uploaded them off the camera yet. I will post more later.

Logan Montoya - Little Guy

Logan Montoya was born on April 20th 2007. He has 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Both his parents were Tri Color Beagles. The owners we got Logan from reside in Visalia, California, and we drove to California to pick Logan up. He, as well as all of his ancestors, is a Pure Bred AKC registered Beagle.
When we got Leela we decided then that we wanted to breed Beagles, and had been looking for a mate for her. I researched online for weeks until I found Logan. I emailed and spoke with the owners over the phone and I decided I didn't want to pay the $250 it would cost to ship him in the mail, not to mention it isn't very good for the puppies. She sent me pictures of the puppies when they were 5 weeks old, so they still sort of looked like gerbils. I choose Logan out of the three boys, and asked her if she could send me other pictured of him, since I could only see his face. She sent me a few other pictures, where you could see that he had a LOT of tan and black spots on his legs.
This is not the same as a Blue Tick marking, but there were still tan spots. I decided that I didn't want him and choose another puppy from the picture without the spots. I decided this because Leela did not have any spots, and I wanted them to have the same or similar coloring.

We then made plans to drive to California, packed up Leela in the kennel and were on our way. We drove though the night on Friday and then arrived Saturday June 9th. When actually saw the puppies, the one I had picked out was SO FAT!! I mean he was HUGE. Obesity in pets, especially Beagles, is a very serious thing, and can cause LOTS of health problems. I didn't want to deal with a puppy that was prone to weight gain because I was going to be using him for breeding, and I wanted him to be healthy and happy and a part of our family for a long time. So then I picked up Logan, he was a little chunky (they had obviously been over feeding them) and he had those unmistakable tan and black spots on his legs and belly - but - I fell in love with his spots and had to have him, spots and all. We then got in the car and prepared for a LONG drive home with PLENTY of potty stops for the new little puppy.

We stopped in Las Vegas to visit Dan's Dad, and then drove home, Logan slept on my lap a lot of the way.
We then went though the same crazy sleeping schedule as we did with Leela, getting up all through the night to take Logan out to use the bathroom. Logan did something REALLY funny though. Before he would lay down he would scratch at the bed and hop around in a circle kind of like a cat then walk around a little bit until he finally lays down, it is the FUNNIEST thing. We laugh EVERY night while he makes his little spot to go to sleep.

We immediately notices the difference in our puppies personality. Leela is so high energy and wants to be everywhere all the time, she is constantly jumping up on things and trying to run at full speed anywhere and everywhere she can, following her nose where ever it takes her, she really is a free spirit lol. Logan is almost 100% the opposite. Logan just wants to be with you. He will roll over and look at you with those cute little eyes and you know he is just saying, "Rub my belly PLEEEEEASE!!"
I mean look at that face, how could you say no?

Logan is a sweet little guy and we love him very much. He gets along with Leela, but sometimes they get pretty rough playing together. He would never sleep on the same bed with Leela though, I was concerned that they would not breed, until we finally caught them snuggling together.

I think I took like 50 pictures, because I was SO happy and shocked! Logan is a precious little guy and he gets along well with Leela now and they snuggle together and play and have fun times.

Leela Isabella - Our Baby Girl

Leela Isabella was born on September 28th 2006. She was the youngest and smallest of a little of 9. Both her parents were Tri Color Beagles. The breeders we purchased Leela from reside in Provo, Utah and their Beagles are inside/outside dogs. She, as well as all over her ancestors, is a Pure Bred AKC registered Beagle.
I remember the the day I first saw Leela very well. It was Monday November 20th right before Thanksgiving. We a women sitting in the parking lot with a box of 3 Beagle puppies. We stopped to look and hold the puppies and I just fell in love with this little puppy. She was sassy and energetic, but snuggled up with you as you held her. Dan still had to finish his shift so I took him back to work, and then went back and got our first baby girl, Leela.
We went NUTS at Pets Mart! We bought her two beds, treats, toys, a blanket, puppy food, shampoo, a brush, nail clippers, perfume, breath mints, yeah . . . we like buying things for our baby girl.
That night we went to bed with her in our arms (well except the 15 times we got up to take her to the bathroom outside) It was hard to leave her home the next day as we both went to work. We laid out the training puppy pad for her to go to the bathroom on (cross your fingers) and we gave her loves and left. As soon as we set her down she was crying :( but we had to go. Dan came home for lunch to play with her and take her to the bathroom outside. I am not sure if it mattered because she had peed multiple times in the kitchen. What about the puppy training pad you say? Well it was used as a play toy and ripped to shreds!!

Yeah she looks so innocent and cute, when she is SLEEPING!

The rest of the week was about the same way, we had a few accidents on the bed at night, but she was so snuggly we had to sleep with her. We took her to my parents home in Lehi for the Thanksgiving Holiday where everyone LOVED her and she ate the plants in my Dads greenhouse, got sick, and threw up. To this day she will eat those plants if we let her, yeah I don't understand. lol
She slept with us at night and lived in the kitchen during the day until she was about 5 months old. One night she just decided she didn't want to anymore and she would jump off the bed and go into the kitchen. Every now and then she will sleep with us, she likes to be totally covered with the blankets. She likes to watch TV with us on the bed. It is so funny to see her reactions.
Our baby girl is a handful. She was very hard to house train because she is so independent, and she gets into everything, so we purchased baby gates to keep her in the kitchen. She very quickly learned to jump and climb over the gates. So we had to purchase a different kind of gate, she can't jump over or climb this gate, but she could squeeze through the bars . . .Dan had to finally put chicken wires up so she couldn't squeeze through, but she sure did try, she is a brave little dog.

What a sweetheart. She sure tries our patience when she pees on the floor just to show that she is in charge, or jumps up on the counter and pulls off a bowl or cup and chews it up, because she can - but we love her.
